THE DISCIPLINE OF SCIENCE
Health care is perhaps the foremost knowledge industry. But to believe that the science coming out of the National Institutes of Health, out of wet bench labs — plus vetting by the right experts — equals the right answer, is to ignore the importance of qualitative, experiential knowledge. The Dartmouth Center for Health Care Delivery Science applies the discipline of hard science to the softer, social science that reflects a critical part of the health care equation: the human, felt-life consequences of that care. Over the next two decades we plan to build a trusted, evidence-based science that doesn’t exist today. Our goal is to rigorously expand the knowledge that leads to good outcomes for individual patients. That's part of the equation: discipline plus discernment.
