Susan Karol, M.D.
In 2008, surgeon Susan Karol, M.D. was appointed Chief Medical Officer of the Indian Health Service, the federal agency responsible for providing health services to members of the 566 federally recognized tribes across the U.S. Dr. Karol assumed the position after serving in Massachusetts as Medical Director of The Hunt Breast Center at Hunt Hospital and Chief of Surgery at Beverly Hospital. A member of the Tuscarora Indian Nation located near Niagara Falls, New York, Dr. Karol received her AB in Biology from Dartmouth in 1979.
